DLA Criticizes National Assembly for Budget Extension

The Democratic and Leadership Alliance (DLA) has voiced its disapproval of the National Assembly's decision to extend the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget to December 31, 2026. This extension, approved by both the Senate and House of Representatives, allows Ministries, Departments, and Agencies more time to execute capital projects outlined in the 2025 Appropriation Act.

Dr Tosin Odeyemi, Head of Media and Publicity for the DLA National Campaign Council, stated that this marks the fourth extension and reflects a deteriorating fiscal and economic situation. He highlighted concerns regarding the incomplete funding of the 2024 budget and challenges with the 2026 budget.

Odeyemi criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to provide accountability for public funds and for his calls for state governors to be held accountable for increased allocations post-fuel subsidy removal. He urged Nigerians to demand greater accountability from the government and suggested that Tinubu's continued leadership could lead the country towards further economic decline.
