Enugu NDC Crisis: Chairman Anih Addresses Allegations

Dr. Johnpaul Anih, the Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, held a press conference on Monday to address allegations regarding a crisis within the party.

He dismissed claims made by certain individuals who alleged that he was not the legitimate chairman and accused him of acting without authorization. Anih described these claims as falsehoods and attributed the unrest to political opportunists seeking to hijack the party through intimidation and propaganda.

He confirmed that a valid congress was conducted on May 6, 2026, at Aborigen Hall in Enugu, attended by media, security agencies, and electoral officials, which resulted in the election of the NDC Enugu State chairman. Anih also noted that there were attempts by some individuals to conduct an illegitimate coup against the party's structure, which were rejected by party members.

He mentioned that letters were sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding upcoming congresses, but no response was received from NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi regarding the crisis.
