Doctors Threaten Strike Over Assault on Ogun Colleague

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) issued a statement on Tuesday, expressing outrage over the assault of a female doctor at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, Ogun State. NARD's President, Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman, condemned the attack as a gross violation of human dignity and highlighted that it reflects deeper systemic security failures within Nigeria's healthcare sector.

The incident involved a group of seven men allegedly associated with Gateway ICT Polytechnic. NARD emphasized that hospitals should be safe havens for healing, not battlegrounds for violence.

They announced immediate actions, including a withdrawal of services by their members in Sagamu until safety is assured. NARD called for the swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of the perpetrators and demanded that the institution take responsibility for the incident.

They also urged an overhaul of security measures within hospital premises and warned that failure to meet their demands could escalate into a broader industrial crisis.
