Dogara Celebrates IBB's 85th Birthday and Legacy

Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, celebrated the 85th birthday of former military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), known as IBB.

In his tribute, Dogara described Babangida as “a statesman of uncommon vision” whose leadership significantly influenced Nigeria's destiny. He noted that Babangida's tenure, which began in 1985, was characterized by bold reforms, infrastructural development, and the creation of new states that enhanced representation for many Nigerians.

Born on August 17, 1941, Babangida's eight years in power are viewed as pivotal in Nigeria's political and economic history. Dogara highlighted Babangida's foresight in establishing institutions that have left a lasting legacy and emphasized his role in expanding Nigeria’s federation.

Even in retirement at his residence in Minna, Babangida continues to offer counsel to governments and inspire future generations. Dogara prayed for Babangida’s health and strength, recognizing his life as a testament to service to God and country.
