Northern Senators Celebrate IBB's 85th Birthday

Members of the Northern Senators Forum have expressed their congratulations to former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida on his 85th birthday. In a message signed by Forum Chairman Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Senators commended Babangida for his significant contributions to Nigeria's unity and governance structure.

They highlighted his decision to create 11 states between 1987 and 1991, which included Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Enugu, Jigawa, Abia, Osun, Taraba, Yobe, Delta, Kebbi, and Kogi, as a response to long-standing demands for inclusion. The Senators noted that the creation of states such as Katsina, Jigawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Yobe, and Kogi brought government closer to the people and facilitated rural development.

They also praised Babangida for relocating the Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja in 1991, describing it as a bold move toward national integration. The Senators acknowledged that Babangida's leadership provided stability and direction during a tumultuous period in Nigeria's history and prayed for his continued good health and wisdom.
