Duke Advocates for Technology in Nigeria's Electoral System

Donald Duke, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and former governor of Cross River State, has called for the implementation of a technology-driven electoral system in Nigeria. During an interview, he criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its failure to instill confidence in the electoral process, stating, "INEC has failed.

It is a monumental failure." Duke expressed that the lack of trust in election results has led to widespread disenchantment among voters, discouraging participation as many believe their votes do not count. He emphasized that existing technology could ensure votes are counted and verified, questioning the reliance on a manual system vulnerable to manipulation.

Duke also referenced the postponement of the 2019 general elections by INEC just hours before voting, which he described as an assault on political parties and the integrity of Nigerians. He had previously communicated his concerns to Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past INEC chairman, regarding this postponement.
