Duke Advocates Competence Over Loyalty for Nigeria's Future

Donald Duke, the presidential candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election, has articulated the necessity for competence, integrity, and capacity in governance over political loyalty. Duke, a former governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, stated that his administration would prioritize competence in key government appointments, moving away from rewarding political patronage.

He believes that winning an election should transition into serious governance, where the president assembles a capable team to advance the country’s development goals. Duke criticized the current practice of allowing political supporters to influence appointments, asserting that public offices should be filled by individuals with the necessary skills and integrity.

He called for comprehensive economic reforms, including a redesign of the financial system, increased investment in critical sectors like electricity, agriculture, and healthcare, and reforms in revenue generation and energy policy. Duke emphasized that Nigeria has the resources to achieve rapid development if led by visionary leadership focused on national interests.
