Lennox Lewis Warns Against Comparing Mose Itauma to Tyson

Lennox Lewis, the undisputed world heavyweight champion, advised against comparing British-Nigerian boxer Mose Itauma to the legendary Mike Tyson. Lewis stated that the 21-year-old Itauma deserves to be recognized as his own fighter, highlighting his unique style and potential.

Itauma has drawn frequent comparisons to Tyson due to his explosive power and aggressive fighting style, as well as his rapid rise in the professional ranks. Lewis emphasized that such comparisons do not benefit the young fighter, who has achieved 13 consecutive victories since turning professional in January 2023, including 11 knockouts.

A significant highlight of Itauma's career was his victory over former world title challenger Dillian Whyte in August 2025, where he claimed the Commonwealth heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Promoter Frank Warren has identified a realistic target for Itauma to contend for a world title in 2026, with his next fight scheduled against experienced American Jermain Franklin on March 28, following a rescheduled bout due to a bicep injury.
