Wives of Detained Officers Appeal for Justice in Coup Trial

Wives of 12 detained military officers have made a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the ongoing military trial of their husbands, who are accused of plotting a coup against his administration. They warned against convicting the officers without credible evidence, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent judicial process.

The women expressed their fears of coercion and inhumane treatment surrounding the trial, recalling previous military trials in Nigeria that ended controversially. They highlighted that any confessions obtained under duress should not be the basis for convictions, as such actions could destroy the careers and reputations of the accused.

The military announced the detention of several personnel in October 2025 for alleged breaches of regulations, with investigations revealing a supposed secret network linked to the coup plot. The trial involves both military and civilian personnel, including retired Major General Moham Ibrahim and Captain Erasmus Ochegobia, and is currently taking place at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
