“Don’t run in 2027” – Southeast group begs ex-President Jonathan

The Southeast political pressure group, Eastern Union, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan not to run for the 2027 presidential election. The group warned that his candidacy could damage his legacy and weaken the opposition.

The group accused Jonathan's promoters of selfish motives, suggesting that they are using him as a bridge to northern succession plans. The National President of the group, Charles Anike, emphasized the importance of political realignment in Nigeria and cautioned that fielding Jonathan could fracture the opposition, especially when unity is crucial for challenging the ruling Progressives Congress in 2027.

Anike advised Jonathan to carefully consider the benefits of a united opposition and support a sellable candidate from the South, particularly the Eastern Region, to achieve the ultimate goal of dethroning the federal government.
