Tinubu Urges APC Unity as Primaries Commence

President Bola Tinubu appealed for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party's primaries began. In a statement released on Thursday, he warned members against rancorous behavior and urged winners not to gloat while encouraging losers to accept defeat gracefully.

Tinubu emphasized that the primaries should not merely serve as a platform for selecting a standard bearer but should also reflect the party's resilience and strength as it enters its fourth electoral cycle. He called for discipline among members and urged aspirants to approach any grievances through the party's redress committee rather than destabilizing the process.

Tinubu also highlighted the need for inclusivity, particularly for women and youth, and instructed security agencies to maintain professionalism during the primaries. The presidential primaries are scheduled for May 25, 2026, with the electoral act reducing the statutory notice period from 360 to 300 days.
