Tinubu Calls for Unity in APC Primaries Ahead of Elections

During a closed-door meeting at the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu urged governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the party's primaries are conducted without issues to preserve unity and cohesion. He highlighted the importance of adhering to the Electoral Act and reaffirmed support for allowing states to choose between consensus or direct primaries.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), expressed gratitude for Tinubu's support, indicating that the governors have the authority to conduct primaries based on the Electoral Act. The meeting included 18 governors, with discussions focused on measures to strengthen party cohesion ahead of the primaries.

The APC has also revised its primary election timetable, with presidential primaries scheduled for May 15, 2026, and governorship primaries on May 25, 2026, among other key dates.
