Energy Access Essential for Gender Equality, Says Afanu

Dr. Omopeju Afanu, involved with the Girl Energy Project and the DoTheDream Youth Development Initiative, addressed the importance of energy access in relation to gender equality during the CSW70 event.

She noted that energy poverty directly impacts the lives of women and girls, particularly in underserved communities where lack of electricity prevents girls from studying at night and affects healthcare delivery. Afanu emphasized that reliable energy is essential for women's economic empowerment, health, and education.

She highlighted the significance of the Girl Energy Project in transforming communities and providing opportunities for girls. Adebusuyi Olumadewa, the founder of the DoTheDream Youth Development Initiative and lead strategist for the Girl Energy Project, echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for strategic partnerships and funding to support energy access initiatives.
