NDLEA Reports ₦2.5trn Drug Seizures and Arrests

Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) informed the United Nations that between January 2025 and September 2026, it seized more than 5.8 million kilogrammes of illicit drugs valued at over ₦2.5 trillion. The agency arrested 38,242 suspects and secured 6,232 convictions during this period.
The figures were presented by NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babafemi at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, emphasized a shift in Nigeria's approach to drug enforcement, moving towards intelligence-led operations and targeting criminal networks rather than just individual offenders.
The agency's efforts also included providing treatment and rehabilitation services to over 16,303 individuals and conducting public sensitization campaigns that reached millions of Nigerians. This new strategy reflects Nigeria's response to increasingly sophisticated drug trafficking networks.
