NDLEA Arrests 1,860 Drug Suspects in Kano Operations
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the arrest of 1,860 suspects and the seizure of 5.4 tonnes of various drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and psychotropic substances, in Kano. This operation, detailed in a statement by Media and Advocacy Officer Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, also resulted in 89 convictions and the filing of 126 new cases in court, with 135 cases pending before the Federal High Court.
Among the arrested suspects were 92 females. The NDLEA conducted about 1,700 counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation interventions for individuals affected by substance abuse and organized approximately 420 sensitisation programmes in schools and communities.
Under Operation Restore Order, directed by NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), the agency dismantled around 35 drug joints and arrested over 300 suspects. The operation also uncovered underground tunnels used by drug dealers in the Rimin Kebe area, illustrating the challenges faced by the NDLEA in combating drug networks.
State Commander CN DY Lawal commended Marwa's leadership and urged public cooperation in reporting drug-related activities.
