NDLEA Seizes Over 2.3 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs Nationwide

Between September 9 and 11, 2026, Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted shipments of synthetic cannabis from the United Kingdom and seized over 2.3 tonnes of assorted illicit drugs across eight states. At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, NDLEA operatives seized 27 parcels of synthetic cannabis weighing 32.20 kilograms, leading to the arrest of real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami on September 9.

Another arrest was made of Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, 44, who was linked to a separate UK shipment containing 12.25 kilograms of cannabis. Additional operations in Lagos resulted in the arrest of Ifeanyi Obed Augustine and Obasi Ugochukwu, while Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry was apprehended for attempting to send 2.1 kilograms of cannabis to Kano.

In Delta State, drugs including pentazocine and codeine were seized, and in Kano, Saidu Adamu was arrested with 785,000 capsules of pregabalin. The NDLEA also destroyed 4,832.56 kilograms of cannabis in Edo State and arrested Sunday Segun during these operations.
