Edo Senator Praises Governor for School Closures Amid Threats

On Tuesday, Governor Mondai Okpebholo ordered the temporary closure of three schools—Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Akoko Edo Secondary School—following a security alert raised by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding potential bandit attacks in Edo North Senatorial District. Senator Joseph Ikpea of Edo Central commended Okpebholo for this proactive measure, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing student safety amid rising security concerns in the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Benin City, Ikpea acknowledged the painful impact of school closures on students but deemed the governor's decision appropriate given the circumstances. He urged the citizens of Edo Central to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

Ikpea also highlighted the need for community involvement in ensuring safety and security, stressing that the threat of kidnapping does not discriminate based on tribe or region. The DSS had previously uncovered plans to abduct students in public schools in Edo North.
