DSS Collaborates with NUJ to Combat Fake News in Nasarawa

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Nasarawa State, led by Director Hassan Abdullahi, has pledged to collaborate with the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to address the issue of fake news. During a meeting in Lafia, Abdullahi highlighted the role of journalists in society and the necessity for accurate reporting to support security efforts.

He noted that misinformation and unverifiable reports on social media can exacerbate tensions and undermine security operations. Abdullahi urged the NUJ leadership, headed by Chairman Salihu Moham Alkali, to ensure that their members do not publish unverifiable information that contradicts professional ethics.

The NUJ has committed to educating its members against sensational and false reporting, aiming to promote stability and counter disinformation. The partnership seeks to strengthen the existing relationship between the DSS and journalists, allowing them to perform their duties without fear of intimidation while ensuring the public receives verified information.
