NITDA Partners NUJ FCT to Tackle Disinformation Ahead of 2027

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is partnering with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council to address disinformation as the 2027 general elections approach. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NITDA, conveyed this commitment during the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week held in Abuja.

He highlighted the theme of the press week, "2027 Elections: Defend Nigeria's Democracy Against Disinformation," noting the critical rise of digital technology that has expanded access to information but also increased the spread of falsehoods. Abdullahi stated that disinformation poses a significant threat to democratic values, undermining public trust and distorting facts.

He stressed that while technology can empower, it cannot combat disinformation without professional ethics and integrity. NITDA supports digital literacy programs to help media professionals navigate the evolving digital information landscape.

The event attracted various stakeholders, including media practitioners and government officials.
