DSS Detains El-Rufai After Court Hearing in Kaduna

On Wednesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) took former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai into custody shortly after he appeared in the Federal High Court in Kaduna. El-Rufai is standing trial for alleged corruption, with the court having just concluded a hearing on a bail application related to the case instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Following the court proceedings, DSS operatives escorted El-Rufai to a waiting vehicle, reportedly driving away to Abuja. There was a strong presence of DSS personnel around the court, which fueled speculation about El-Rufai's custody.

The court session was marked by tight security, with armed operatives restricting movement around the court complex. El-Rufai's defense counsel, Oluwol Iyamu, confirmed that the court has fixed April 14 to rule on the bail application.

The defense team is preparing for a separate case scheduled for April 10 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. El-Rufai was previously arraigned at the Kaduna State High Court alongside Amadu Sule on separate charges, including abuse of office and fraud.
