D’Tigers Beat Cape Verde, Keep FIBA World Cup Hopes Alive

The D’Tigers of Nigeria, coached by David Fizdale, achieved a significant 100-84 victory against Cape Verde in their final game of the fourth qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup on Sunday at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès in Radès, Tunisia. This win improved Nigeria's record to five wins and four defeats in the African Qualifiers, essential for maintaining their qualification hopes after earlier losses to Cameroon and South Sudan.

Nigeria dominated the game from the outset, establishing a 9-0 lead and finishing the first quarter at 23-9. They led 52-35 at halftime and extended their advantage to 76-54 by the end of the third quarter.

Caleb Agada was the standout performer, scoring 26 points with an impressive shooting performance. Coach Fizdale expressed satisfaction with the team's three-point shooting, a significant improvement from earlier matches.

Nigeria will now prepare for the final qualifying window in February 2027, where the top teams will secure spots for the World Cup in Qatar.
