Umeh Advocates for Electronic Transmission of Election Results

In an interview with Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, asserted that real-time electronic transmission of election results was successfully implemented during the 2023 general elections and remains achievable. Umeh's comments followed the repeal and re-enactment of a bill concerning electronic transmission, which was passed by the National Assembly under President Bola Tinubu within 24 hours.

He highlighted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) successfully uploaded results from 469 constituencies in Abuja during the 2023 elections, countering claims that such a system could no longer function due to infrastructure challenges. Umeh criticized those who suggest that electronic transmission is no longer possible, suggesting that they may be attempting to undermine the electoral process.
