Nigeria to Learn 2027 AFCON Qualifying Opponents Tuesday

The Confederation of African Football will conduct the draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tournament on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt. Nigeria, a three-time AFCON champion, will learn its qualifying opponents for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027. This edition will mark the first time the AFCON is jointly hosted by three countries.

Nigeria has previously won the tournament in 1980, 1994, and 2013, and finished as runners-up in 2023. A total of 48 teams, including the three co-hosts, will participate in the qualifying rounds, which will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each.

The top two teams from each group will qualify automatically for the final tournament. The qualifying matches will occur across three FIFA international windows from September 2026 to March 2027.
