CAN Chairman Awoshiri Condemns Violence in Taraba State

William Peter Awoshiri, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State, condemned the ongoing violence in the state, particularly in the Takum and Donga local government areas. He described the situation as tragic and unacceptable.

In his 2026 Easter message issued on Sunday, he urged residents to embrace peace and unity, emphasizing the need to renew their commitment to Christian values amid security challenges. Awoshiri highlighted that Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolizing victory over death and hope in despair.

He called for reflection on the deeper spiritual significance of Easter, beyond mere celebration. He expressed concern over the security situation in southern Taraba, lamenting the loss of lives and destruction of property.

Awoshiri commended the efforts of the state government and local security agencies in restoring peace and called for proactive measures to address the crisis. He also appealed for support for internally displaced persons affected by the violence, urging donations of essential items.
