Lagos Urges Caution for Easter Celebrations Amid Risks

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a statement urging residents to celebrate the Easter season with caution, highlighting the importance of safety during this period of increased social activity. The statement was released by Dr.

Olufemi Okosanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), on Thursday. Okosanyintolu noted that the Easter celebrations often lead to heightened risks, particularly on major roads and in public gatherings, due to improper handling of electrical appliances and open flames, which can result in fire outbreaks.

Motorists are advised to obey traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant in crowded places, especially at religious centers and recreational parks.

LASEMA has collaborated with emergency response agencies to implement comprehensive safety strategies during the festive period, including the deployment of personnel and equipment at strategic locations for rapid intervention in emergencies. Residents are urged to report emergencies via the state’s toll-free line, 112, to minimize damage and loss of life.
