FG Opens 15km Enugu-Onitsha Highway for Easter Traffic

The Federal Government announced the opening of a 15km stretch of the Enugu–Onitsha Highway, specifically the 9th Mile Abakpa section, to ease traffic during the Easter celebrations. Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this during an inspection of the project on Thursday.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing immediate relief for road users in the region. The project, which is 97% complete, involved the reinforcement of concrete roads to improve durability and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Umahi noted that previous administrations had allowed the road to deteriorate, causing travel times to extend up to seven hours. The total reconstruction of the Enugu–Onitsha road is valued at 350 billion Naira, with ongoing projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure across the southeast.

Umahi urged public verification of project progress and called for support from political leaders in the region.
