Gridlock Strands Motorists on Abuja-Lokoja Highway Ahead of Easter

Ahead of the Easter holiday, a massive gridlock on the Abuja-Lokoja highway left several vehicles stranded for hours. This recurring phenomenon during festive periods has been observed by correspondents, with motorists experiencing similar situations in December.

Motorists, including Abayomi Adewal, reported being stuck on the road for hours, particularly near the River Niger Bridge. Moham Gambo, the chairman of the People's Democratic Party in Kogi State, blamed the federal and state governments for the poor condition of the road, which has been neglected for 20 years due to inadequate funding and incompetence from contractors.

Gambo described the highway as a major route linking the federal capital territory to the north-central and southern regions, serving as a supply route for food and fuel. He warned that the situation could worsen as Easter travel intensifies, prompting calls for urgent government intervention to alleviate the hardship faced by motorists.
