Ondo Attorney General Affirms Eba Island Belongs to Ondo

On Thursday, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, the Attorney General of Ondo State, reaffirmed that Eba Island is part of Ondo State amidst a territorial dispute with Ogun State.

Ajulo described the renewed controversy as astonishing, emphasizing that historical administrative records recognize Eba Island as part of Ondo State. He referenced multiple visits by the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation to the island, which acknowledged its belonging to Ondo.

Ajulo highlighted that Ogun State's claims are misleading and could incite community tension. He detailed the island's historical ties to Ondo, noting that it was included in the Atijere Ilaje Local Government Area prior to Nigeria's 1914 amalgamation.

The island was part of the Ilaje Mahin area within the Lagos colony since 1885, and it has remained under Ondo's jurisdiction through various administrative reforms, including the establishment of the Ilaje Local Government Area in 1975. Ajulo called for calm and urged resolution through constitutional means.
