Urgent Federal Intervention Needed for Eba Island Crisis

Hon. Samson Obazuay, a senior special assistant to the Ondo State governor, Aiyedatiwa, has solicited the federal government's urgent intervention to address the boundary crisis concerning Eba Island, an oil-rich territory claimed by both Ondo and Ogun states.

This appeal aims to avert potential unrest among the Ilaj people of Ondo State. The tension has escalated due to recent claims regarding the ownership of Eba Island, which is historically part of Ilaj land in Ondo State.

Obazuay emphasized that the recent oil discoveries do not alter the territorial status of Eba Island. He commended Hon.

Donald Kimikanboh Ojogo for sponsoring a motion in the House of Representatives to clarify the ownership of the island. The Ondo State government is urging President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the boundary matter is addressed constitutionally, highlighting the importance of engaging with traditional leadership structures to maintain peace and order in the region.
