Ondo Monarchs Seek Federal Intervention in Eba Island Dispute

Monarchs from the Ilaj Local Government Area in Ondo State have called for the Federal Government's intervention in a territorial dispute over Eba Island, which is claimed by both Ondo and Ogun states. The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its jurisdiction over the island, dismissing Ondo's claims as misleading and potentially inciting community tensions.

Ondo's Attorney General, Kayode Ajulo, noted that official records have recognized Eba Island as part of Ondo State territory for decades. The traditional rulers, including Oba William Akinyomi and Oba Femi Ogbaro, issued a joint statement appealing for federal intervention to prevent a potential crisis.

They argue that historical records clearly demarcate the boundaries between the Mahin Kingdom in Ondo and the Ijebu axis in Ogun. The monarchs also highlighted the presence of electoral units within Eba Island that fall under Ondo's jurisdiction, reinforcing their claim.

They called for a roundtable discussion to amicably resolve the issue while expressing a desire to develop oil resources in the area.
