Lagos Inspects Ebola Preparedness at International Airport

On a recent weekend, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, led a high-powered delegation to inspect Ebola preparedness at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

This initiative comes amid rising concerns about the resurgence of Ebola in East African countries. The delegation included Dr.

Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Dayo Lajid, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, and Dr.

Ismail Abdu Salam, Director of Epidemiology and Biosecurity. They reviewed the existing operational framework for passenger movement and infection prevention measures.

Abayomi highlighted Nigeria's success in containing Ebola during the 2014 outbreak and stressed the need for constant preparedness against infectious diseases like Ebola, COVID-19, and Lassa fever. The visit aimed to identify gaps and develop practical solutions to prevent the importation of the virus into Nigeria, particularly through MMIA, which accounts for 70% of international passenger traffic in the country.
