Ebonyi State Government Denies Contract Misuse Allegations

The Ebonyi State Government, through Chief Ikeuwa Omeb, the state commission's informant, has refuted claims that it uses contracts to empower influential stakeholders. In a press briefing held in Abakaliki on Friday, Omen stated that contract awards are strictly based on merit and adhere to due process as outlined by the state Bureau of Public Procurement.

He highlighted that the government does not tolerate negligence from contractors, particularly citing a 2km road project that was either abandoned or poorly executed. The Executive Council (Exco) has decided to terminate the contract for this road due to slow progress and inadequate work quality.

The Exco's meeting on February 3, 2026, will further address these issues. Additionally, the government has received requests to engage subcontractors for air conditioning services at the Ebonyi State Trade Centre, approving a sum of N1.3 billion for immediate commencement of these services.
