Ebonyi State Suspends Road Project Over Substandard Materials

The Ebonyi State Government has ordered an immediate suspension of work on Section 3 of the Isu Oriegu-Obeagu-Ezzaegu road in Onicha Local Government Area due to allegations of substandard materials being used. Engr. Felix Igbok, who oversees project monitoring and evaluation, conducted an inspection and found that the materials did not meet the approved specifications.

He stated that the government is committed to ensuring quality and durability in its projects and will not tolerate deviations from agreed standards. Consequently, contractor Domin Okechukwu has been instructed to halt work forthwith until further directives are issued.

Igbok also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the Nwode-Ndiegu-Echara road in Ikwo LGA, directing the contractor to create expansive joint concrete pavements to prevent cracking and to provide water tankers for proper curing of the concrete. He warned that failure to comply could result in project suspension.

Additionally, he urged contractors to expedite work on state government projects ahead of the rainy season to avoid unnecessary delays.
