Ebonyi Governor Orders School Closures and Curfew After Deadly Attack

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate closure of schools in the Amasiri clan, Afikpo Local Government Area, and imposed a 20-hour daily curfew following a deadly attack allegedly carried out by assailants in Okporojo village, Edda Local Government Area. The attack resulted in the killing and beheading of four people, as well as the burning of nine houses.

The Ebonyi State Security Council, in an emergency meeting, resolved to implement these measures to address the security crisis. Governor Nwifuru visited the affected communities to commiserate with residents and directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack.

Additionally, two traditional rulers in the Amasiri clan were dethroned as part of efforts to address the crisis. The governor also announced the shutdown of Amen town, including public and private schools, and the closure of the Amasiri Development Center.

A daily curfew from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. was imposed in the Amasiri community. Security agencies were tasked with arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators of the violence.
