Ebonyi PDP Candidate Dr Ifeanyi Odii Targets Child Labour

Dr Ifeanyi Odii, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, has committed to addressing child hawking and domestic work among children if elected in 2027. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, he emphasized the need for youth empowerment, education, and skills development as central to his administration's agenda.

Odii identified poverty and unemployment as key factors driving families to send children into domestic work and street hawking. He proposed establishing skills-acquisition centres across all 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State, aiming to train approximately 39,000 youths in various vocational skills such as carpentry, tailoring, and animal husbandry.

Odii also linked child labour to inadequate access to education and pledged to prioritize educational initiatives, including scholarships and improved learning environments. He plans to invest in agriculture, healthcare, and job creation to foster a productive local economy, thereby reducing household poverty and the need for families to send their children to work.
