Umahi Addresses Killing of NELAN Engineers in Ebonyi

On Tuesday, David Umahi, the Minister of Works, spoke out regarding the killing of engineers from NELAN Consult during the ongoing crisis in Ebonyi State. The incident, which occurred amid violent conflicts in the Effium and Ezza Effium communities, has led to the arrest of suspects connected to the crime, who are currently facing trial.

Umahi's statement followed protests from individuals identifying as family members of the deceased engineers, who are demanding justice for the tragic incident. He described the killings as a painful tragedy that occurred during the violent conflict that has engulfed the area since 2021.

The engineers disappeared on November 3, 2021, at the height of the crisis, which has resulted in the destruction of lives and properties in the community. Umahi, who was the governor of Ebonyi State at the time, mobilized security agencies for an intensive search and investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He dismissed any insinuations that the government had abandoned the matter, insisting that swift action has been taken to investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
