Umahi Advocates Direct Primaries for APC Ahead of 2027

David Umahi, the Governor of Ebonyi State, is pushing for direct primaries for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections, with a significant date set for April 29, 2026. Umahi has consulted with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and clarified that there is no direct barrier for aspirants purchasing nomination forms.

He expressed that the President has not instructed anyone regarding the elections in Ebonyi State. Umahi reaffirmed the democratic rights of aspirants while stressing the importance of peace and engagement among party stakeholders.

He urged the governor to lead efforts to achieve consensus among aspirants through dialogue and negotiation. If consensus cannot be reached, direct primaries will be implemented.

Umahi emphasized loyalty to the party leadership over individual aspirations and highlighted the need for unity within the APC to secure overwhelming votes for candidates, particularly for the presidency.
