NSC Reduces 2026 NSF Events to 20 Amid Economic Crunch

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that the 2026 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Enugu State will feature only 20 sports events, a reduction from previous years, due to the prevailing economic situation in Nigeria. This decision was confirmed by the Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, during a meeting held in Abuja.

The reduction was agreed upon during the last National Council on Sports meeting in Calabar, where the economic realities facing the country were considered. The list of 20 sports events has been aligned with the model used for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The approved sports include athletics, para-athletics, badminton, para-badminton, basketball, wheelchair basketball, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoeing, para-canoeing, cricket, cycling, darts, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, mixed martial arts, shooting, para-shooting, swimming, table tennis, para-table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, para-powerlifting, and wrestling.
