ICPC Urges Fair Tax Treatment Amid Economic Hardship

On Thursday, during a sensitization workshop in Maiduguri, Linu Gubbi, a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), called on the Borno State Internal Revenue Service to treat taxpayers fairly, especially given the current economic hardships faced by residents. Gubbi noted that many individuals are struggling to pay taxes due to difficult economic conditions, including traders and farmers recovering from displacement.

He stressed the importance of restoring public confidence in government institutions and ensuring that every naira collected is handled with honesty and diligence. Gubbi urged the revenue service staff to adhere to strict professional standards and avoid corrupt practices, such as bribery and kickbacks.

Ali Umar Ishidi, the Director of Administration and Supply at the Borno State Internal Revenue Service, commended the ICPC for the session, highlighting the critical role of staff in preventing corruption in tax collection.
