Edo Assembly Forms Committee to Probe Ex-Speaker Agbebaku

On Tuesday, the Edo State House of Assembly, led by new Speaker Yekini Idaiye, dissolved all standing committees to reassess legislative responsibilities and enhance administrative efficiency. Concurrently, a five-member ad hoc committee was established to investigate allegations of corruption and financial misconduct against former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.

These allegations include claims of inflated procurement costs for Lexus SUVs and Hilux trucks. The committee, chaired by Bright Iyamu, representing Orhionmwon South Constituency, includes members Donald Okogbe (Akoko-Edo II), Andrew Uzamere (Ovia North-East II), Kingsley Ugabi (Etsako East), and Maria Edeko (Esan North-East II).

This committee is tasked with submitting its report within two weeks. Agbebaku had resigned as Speaker shortly before Idaiye's election as his successor on August 17, 2026, amid the corruption allegations, which are pending the outcome of the House's investigation.
