New Edo Speaker Accuses Ex-Speaker of Corruption

Yekini Idiaye was elected as the new Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly following the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku on Monday. Shortly after assuming office in Benin City, Idiaye accused the former leadership of the Assembly of corruption and poor administration, stating that the House had faced numerous challenges, including repeated adjournments.

He criticized Agbebaku's leadership style, which he claimed hindered the Assembly's effectiveness and the implementation of government programs. Idiaye asserted that the change in leadership was essential for repositioning the legislature and enhancing its cooperation with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

He pledged that the Assembly would support the governor's initiatives to advance development in Edo State and ensure that the interests of residents remained a priority. The leadership change also resulted in Sanny Ojezele being appointed as Majority Leader.
