Edo By-Elections: CSOs Sends Fresh Warning Against Manipulation, Militarisation of Process

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have issued a warning against manipulation and militarization of the upcoming Edo By-Elections on August 16, 2025. The Coalition Observer Groups Nigeria (COG) expressed concerns that any interference could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

The coalition highlighted the lingering crisis of confidence from the September 2024 governorship election in Edo, citing allegations of irregularities such as the use of duplicate result sheets and questionable collation practices. They also raised alarm over reports that security agencies, particularly the police, could be deployed to restrict lawful access to opposition party agents at collation centers.

The CSOs urged the sitting governor and INEC to condemn any threats to opposition supporters and ensure a fair and transparent election process. They emphasized the importance of public trust in democracy and the need to prevent manipulation and intimidation to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.
