Edo State Stripped of Five Gold Medals at Niger Delta Games

Edo State has been stripped of five gold medals at the Niger Delta Games following the disqualification of five athletes due to eligibility concerns. An investigation revealed discrepancies regarding the athletes' state origins, violating the eligibility accord.

The disqualified athletes included John Vera and Ayimba Maria from Bayelsa State, who were found to have submitted documents indicating they were overage. Additionally, Okafor Adolphu from Ondo State was removed from competition for similar reasons.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria did not receive sufficient legal documentation to substantiate claims made by the athletes. Bright Joel Udoh from Edo State and Wisdom Chibuez Nweke from Abia State were also implicated, although the latter was cleared upon review.

The disqualification underscores the commitment to uphold eligibility rules and maintain competitive integrity across participating states.
