Edo State Wins Niger Delta Games, Dethrones Bayelsa

Edo State emerged victorious in the second edition of the Niger Delta Games, held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Thursday. The host state secured first place with a total of 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze medals.

Delta State finished in second place with 39 gold, 29 silver, and 35 bronze medals, while the defending champions, Bayelsa State, came in third with 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals. Other participating states included Akwa Ibom, Abia, Cross River, Ondo, and Imo, finishing in 4th to 9th places respectively.

The Delta team dominated the relay events, winning three out of four. The games were sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission and organized by Dunami Icon Limited.

Okei Bakkassi from Ondo State won a dance competition, receiving a prize of 1 million Naira. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, presented the event, while Amadin Enabulele, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Council, commended the team for their achievements, attributing their success to the support of Governor Mondai Okpebholo.
