NDLEA Seizes 7.2 Tonnes of Cannabis in Edo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted two articulated trucks loaded with 7,245 kilograms of suspected cannabis along the Auchi-Abuja highway in Edo State. This operation, disclosed by NDLEA's Edo State command spokesperson Mitchel Ofoyeju during a news conference in Benin on Tuesday, resulted in the arrest of five suspects connected to the drug trafficking network.

This seizure is noted as a significant blow to drug barons, marking the first time the command has intercepted two illicit drug trucks simultaneously. The operation followed 72 hours of intelligence gathering, leading to the interception of the trucks disguised as beer cartons.

The drugs, valued at approximately N724 million, were destined for the streets, posing a threat particularly to the youth. Ofoyeju emphasized that the operation aligns with the agency's mandate to dismantle drug trafficking networks, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network behind the operation.
