Edo State Reports 43 Disasters in 2025, Affects 10,000

In 2025, Edo State experienced a total of 43 disasters, including fire outbreaks, floods, and other incidents, as disclosed by Dr. Jerri Idahosa, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The report, presented during a stakeholder engagement in Benin, highlighted that the incidents comprised 15 fire outbreaks, 10 flood cases, and 10 rainstorm windstorm incidents. Additionally, there were mentions of banditry conflicts.

The disasters have directly and indirectly affected around 10,000 individuals. The engagement aimed to strengthen disaster management strategies in line with the 2025 vision and the 2026 event organized in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
