Edo State Invites Investors for Decentralised Power Reforms

The Edo State Government has called on local and foreign investors to leverage its decentralised electricity market reforms, which it describes as a catalyst for investment, industrialisation, and sustainable economic growth. Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, made this appeal while representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at a high-level African Union energy meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Usenbo stated that Edo's participation aimed to showcase the state's energy reforms to development partners, investors, and policymakers, positioning it as a preferred destination for energy investments in Africa. He highlighted that Edo's energy agenda aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7.
The meeting allowed Edo to forge strategic partnerships and attract development financing. Usenbo attributed the state's invitation to the progress made under Governor Okpebholo’s administration, particularly through the Edo State Electricity Law and the proposed 100-megawatt Ologbo Independent Power Project.
He emphasized that decentralised energy is crucial for industrialisation and economic opportunities.
