Zamfara Education Commissioner Resigns as Governor Defects

Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, the Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, resigned from his position as Governor Dauda Lawal announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Madawaki confirmed his resignation in a telephone conversation with Channel Television, stating that his decision was based on political principles and that he remains a loyal member of the PDP.

He dismissed claims that he was pressured to resign, asserting that it was a voluntary decision. Governor Lawal accepted Madawaki's resignation and appointed Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam to oversee the Ministry of Education.

The governor's decision to switch parties was made public on March 9 and followed extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders in Zamfara State. Lawal attributed his decision to the need for political unity and stability, aiming to enhance security and development in the state.
