Education Ministry Condemns Recent School Abductions

The Federal Ministry of Education condemned the abductions of schoolchildren in Oyo and Borno states, which took place nearly two weeks prior, on May 13 and 15. In a press release issued on Thursday, the ministry's Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasad Boriowo, stated that the attacks on schools are tragic and unacceptable, emphasizing that no child should face violence while pursuing education.

The Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing school security and implementing national policies for violence-free educational environments. The attacks resulted in the abduction of at least 82 schoolchildren, with 40 taken during an assault in Oyo State and 42 in Borno State, where Boko Haram was suspected to be involved.

The ministry urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation while supporting ongoing rescue efforts. The Borno State government has temporarily closed schools in the affected areas as a safety measure.
