EEDC customers protest 400% electricity bill increase in Umuahia

Residents of the World Bank Housing Estate in Umuahia protested a 400% increase in their electricity bills, leading them to storm the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) office. The residents expressed their frustration with the sudden spike in estimated bills and accused the EEDC of exploitation.

The acting Chairperson of the Residents Association, Kalu Florence, demanded an immediate review of the bills, highlighting the financial strain it puts on families with lower incomes. The Operations Manager of EEDC, Engineer Amaga, called for dialogue to resolve the issue but the peace meeting that followed did not yield the desired results.

The residents warned that they may take further action if the situation is not rectified, emphasizing the need for fair treatment and reasonable billing practices.
